About the CDL Passenger & School Bus Tests

The Passenger endorsement (P) is required if you drive a vehicle designed to carry 16 or more passengers (including the driver). This covers buses, passenger vans, and other commercial passenger vehicles.

The test covers the knowledge needed to safely carry passengers:

  • Loading and unloading passengers safely
  • Emergency exits and evacuation procedures
  • Passenger security and managing disruptive passengers
  • Safe bus operation: turning, braking, and stopping
  • Effects of passengers on handling and balance
  • Pre-trip inspection for passenger vehicles
  • Handicapped passenger assistance

The School Bus endorsement (S) adds requirements for drivers who transport students. The S test covers additional topics like:

  • School bus loading and unloading procedures
  • The eight danger zones around a school bus
  • Crossing procedures and using the stop arm
  • Student behavior management
  • Special inspections and equipment requirements
  • State laws governing school bus operation

Our practice tests mirror the real DMV exam format for both endorsements, with detailed explanations for every question. Practice until you score 90% or higher, and you'll walk into the DMV ready to pass.

Bus Endorsement Tips

  • • Know the P endorsement comes before S for school bus drivers.
  • • Memorize the danger zones around a school bus.
  • • Know emergency door and exit procedures cold.
  • • Understand how loading passengers changes vehicle balance.
